Summary

[edit]
Description

Free market conditions had led to the closure of this small town co-operative furnishing shop, also selling glass and china. The rounded cobbles here were quite fearsome to ride on with a narrow-tyred bicycle. The words Stadtverwaltung may be seen back to front above the left hand window.

Schildau, near Torgau, was the birthplace of the famous Prussian General, August Neidhardt von Gneisenau and a statue commemorates him here.
