Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Since 1970, total emissions of the six main air pollutants have decreased by 69%. This is the overall reduction in emissions by mass per year. The Clean Air Act created a framework for achieving and maintaining clean and healthy air quality levels, while the Environmental Protection Agency established national ambient air quality standards for the six major air pollutants. Following that, each state was required to create implementation plans outlining how they would control emission limits from individual sources in order to meet and maintain national standards. (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 1997).
