Summary
[edit]DescriptionEmin Khoja Minaret.jpg |
English: The Emin Minaret (Imin Ta) is 44m/144ft high, making it the tallest in China. The brick work is a striking example of Islamic architecture. Named after the heroic Uighur general Emin Khoja, the minaret was financed and built by his second son, Suleman, in 1777-1778 both to commemorate the exploits of his father in defending the unification of China and to show gratitude to the Qing dynasty (1644-1912). Suleman inherited his father’s rank and role as Turpan’s ruler.
The adjacent Su Gong Ta Mosque can accommodate 1,000 people. On Google Earth: Emin Minaret 42°56'3.53"N, 89°12'12.33"E |
