Summary
[edit]DescriptionEmil Nolde (1867-1956) - Clematis and Dahlia (1940) - Oil on canvas - National Gallery of Denmark.jpg |
English: Emil Nolde (1867-1956) is famous for his colorful expressiveness i.a. in the flower pictures. Despite his membership of National-sozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei Nordschleswig his works were considered by leading Nazis to be "Entartete Kunst" that is "Degenerate Art".
The same exclusion surpassed many other prominent artists such as Max Ernst, Paul Klee and Marc Chagall. Nolde painted this oil painting in 1940. Reportedly, he found the inspiration in the very beautiful flower garden he and his wife had created at their home in Seebüll i South Schleswig. He was prohibited from painting in 1941. Nolde was born in the North Schleswig village Nolde (which has been Danish since 1920). He was christened Hans Emil Hansen, but took the name of the village in 1902. From 1920 he was a Danish citizen, but must first and foremost be considered a German artist. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emil_Nolde en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emil_Nolde#/media/File:Ausstellung_... www.flickr.com/photos/184898381@N07/49507418546/in/album-... www.smk.dk/en/ |
