Animal characteristics: Head-Body Length: 20 cm; Identification: The emerald-spotted wood dove has brown upper parts and a gray forehead. It also has two broad black bands across its rump, brownish-pink below, light chestnut under the wings and flanks, and emerald green metallic spots on the inner secondaries; Habitat: Woodlands, dry thornveld savannas; Diet: Herbivore: seeds, grain; Reproduction: The nest for these birds consists of a small platform of twigs. After breeding in April-October, females lay two eggs; Social Structure: Wood doves usually live alone or in pairs; Status: No special status. |
