Description
Français : Utilisation d'un émagramme pour déterminer l'altitude de la base des cumulus. On suppose que l'atmosphère est instable au moins jusqu'à la base des cumulus pour que la convection thermique soit possible. L'air quitte le niveau du sol (1000 hPa) avec une température de 30°C (point A), un rapport de mélange saturant de 30 g/kg (point A), un rapport de mélange reel de 4 g/kg (point B) et un point de rosée de 0°C (point B également). L'air ascendant se refroidit en suivant l'adiabatique sèche car il n'a pas le temps d'échanger de chaleur avec l'air ambiant. Le rapport de mélange saturant diminue, l'air se refroidissant est capable de contenir de moins en moins d'humidité. Le rapport de mélange réel reste constant car on suppose que l'air ascendant n'échange pas d'humidité avec l'air ambiant. Lorsque le rapport de mélange saturant atteint le rapport de mélange, l'humidité commence à se condenser : c'est la base des cumulus (à 3500 m d'altitude sur ce schema).
