| Description |
English: Ely Cathedral is one of the wonders of the medieval world. It is vast in size (only 3 medieval Cathedrals in UK are larger) and displays some of the best examples of Norman/Romanesque and Gothic architecture in the country. It also has the country's largest freestanding Lady Chapel.
The building, known as the Ship of the Fens due to its extreme size and shape over the very flat land, is most famous for its unique Octagon tower over the Crossing, the only such example in the world. This is the awesome view from the West End of the Nave with an interrupted view East towards the Octagon, Quire and East Window. |
