The result was that often in less than aweek the bomber would feel so at ease in the ship that he could operate the gun expertly when his feet hadleft the floor of the fuselage and he was hanging by the belt. Shadow shooting came next, and was perhaps the most pleasing in the entire course. The shadow of aship, flying 200 feet or so above the one in which the gunner was riding, was thrown on the water andserved as the target. The splashes would indicate the success of the bomber. A target towed behind another ship was the next object of the bombers markmanship.
