Summary
[edit]DescriptionElk Herd Below Star Dune and Crestone Peaks (52603647778).jpg |
Elk are more commonly seen in quieter months at Great Sand Dunes. Watch for them in the grasslands along the park entrance road at dawn or dusk. There are about 6,000 elk on the east side of the San Luis Valley, and many of them live year round in the vast grasslands surrounding the dunefield on three sides. NPS/Patrick Myers |
