Description
Русский: Придворный живописец, немецкий художник Г.Х. Гроот прославился в России как мастер небольших по формату, камерных императорских портретов. Он портретировал императрицу Елизавету Петровну (1709–1762) то на коне, то, как в этом портрете, в виде дамы в черном, держащей в руке маску. Коричневато-красный пышный занавес, на фоне которого изображена Елизавета Петровна, придает портрету парадность и торжественность. Этот портрет – типичное произведение мастера рококо, где художник концентрирует внимание на игровом моменте, преображая, видоизменяя свою героиню посредством переодевания, маскарада. Образ императрицы, повелительницы отступает перед пленительным, изящным, загадочным обликом прекрасной незнакомки в черном. Рококо впервые в отечественном искусстве открывает в образе царствующей государыни черты камерности, даже интимности, обращаясь уже не к официальной, а к частной стороне ее жизни.

Поступила в 1931 г. из Государственного Эрмитажа.

Повторение картины находится в Государственном Русском музее.

Произведение записано в инвентарной книге Государственной Третьяковской галереи под номером 15170.
