English: WIPO Director General Daren Tang (right) received on October 7, 2024, Uruguay's instrument of accession to the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and Budapest Treaty from Elisa Facio, Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining of Uruguay (left).
WIPO's Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) helps inventors and businesses to seek patent protection in multiple countries by filing one international application. The Budapest Treaty facilitates biotech patenting through international recognition of the deposit of microorganisms for patent procedure. As of January 7, 2025, applicants and inventors in Uruguay will be able to file patent applications under the PCT as a means of seeking patent protection in PCT Contracting States. Likewise, on the same date, foreign innovators and companies will be able to use the PCT System to seek patent protection for their inventions in Uruguay. More: Uruguay Joins the PCT Copyright: WIPO.
