Text Appearing Before Image:
Fig. 23. Farmers upright drying machine with 18 cylinders double width(drying on both sides). their features and manner of working. The mostcomplete and practical machine, is that representedin diagram, plate V. fig. 22, on which all possiblestyles can be dried, thai is to say, with: 124 B
Text Appearing After Image:
FOLDOUT NOT DIGITIZED MACHINES EMPLOYED IN DRYING. 125 contact on both sides, contact on the right side or surface only, contact on the reverse side only, whatever may be the style of starching employed:open trough, on the surface alone, or on theback of the cloth. In machines drying on both sides the starcheasily adheres to the cylinders, this drawback isremedied by covering the first two or threecylinders with a thick cylindrical lapping, andwhich can be easily removed when it gets toomuch coated with the thickening. If this precautionbe not taken, there is a risk of spoiling the fabricas the starch will be deposited in patches. Workmust be suspended in order to clean the cylinders, and as this cannot well be done when they arehot, it is necessary to wait until they cool thuslosing time. As we have already said it is farthe best in drying back starched goods that thesurface only of the cloth comes in contact withthe cans. — Vide diagram Fig. 11, plate III,the thickening dries quicke
