A journey of two and one-half miles can be madethrough the Grand Basin across the base of the Cascades around 110. y.- lal.\lu on the gr.\nd b.\sin. series parallel controller gives three speeds forward and two onreverse. The motors were supplied by the Hertner Electric Com-pany and are of 2-hp, compound-wound, four-pole, with ball, thrustand axle bearings. On account of the slack water and the lagoonsbeing sheltered from the winds, a boat will run 100 miles on acharge. At present they are in service from five to six hours aday, and the busiest time is from 5 to 10 P.M. The charging station for the launches is under the bridge just westof the Electricity Building, from whence is received a 250-volt supplyof current. Along the bank are leads to thirty-two Anderson auto-mobile charging plugs, two batteries being charged on each circuit.At the switchboard are the wattmeter, volt and ammeters, pilot lamps

Mr. H. B.Barnes, who is in charge of the station, has arranged the voltmeterand pilot lamp circuits so that he can tell at a glance the conditionof charge of all batteries connected.
