LROAD. The Ft. Dodge Des Moines & Southern Railroad (describedin the Electric Railway Review of May 25, 1907, page 672) is ment. The seatins capacity of the car is .50 passengers—34 inthe main conipaitment and l(i in the smoking compartment.The toilet room is located in the center of the car. These cars are of the single-end type, with the motornianscab at the baggage compartment end. The hot water heateris located in the baggage compartment. The cars are mountedon Baldwin class S4-25 trucks, weighing about 10,200 poundseach. The axles are u/a inches in diameter at motor bear-ings, journals 4Vi by 8 inches, with Symington journal boxes.The wheels are 3(5 inches in diameter, have 4-inch tread,%-inch flange, and rims 2Vi inches thick. Among other equip-ments are two Nichols-Lintern air sanders and a locomotivetype of pilot; and two eoujilers—an M. C. 15. coupler anda coupler to connect with drawbars of city cars. These cars are 53 feet 3% inches longover all and 43 feet 6Vi inches over end i)lates. The extremewidth over all is 9 feet 10 inches. The height from rail to four 75-horsepower Westinghouse motors and A. M. T. sched-ule air brakes. The secret service of the Philadelphia Rapid Transit Com-pany recently discovered a flourishing traffic in transfers beingconducted by two conductors, stationed on street corners togive out transfers, and a newsboy.
