Development of the General Plan The general plan which the commissioners recommendhas in view a development along the following broadlines, which as a primary basis will require the con-struction of four north and south rapid transit linesparallel with the greater dimension of the city. Twoof these lines will pass through the present loop dis-trict and the other two will be located further west onHalsted Street and Ashland Avenue. The east and westrapid transit lines extending from the outer limits ofthe city to and through the greatly broadened centralbusiness district will intersect the above four lines,with transfer arrangements at points of intersection.This rapid transit system is to be extended, as maybe necessitated by the citys growth from time to time,so as to serve the new and growing subcenters andresidential districts.
