with a condulet outlet in the take screen in the side of the car, so that when the doorsare left slightly open in cold weather the danger of in-jury to perishable goods placed near the doors will beeliminated. All switches are placed inside the vestibulesand nothing is left inside the car which will in any wayoccupy freight-carrying space. The heating grills near thedoors are 4 in. high x 30 in. long. The motors are inside-hung with leads hung by leather straps from springs at-tached to the underframe, and the trucks were designedby the Baldwin Locomotive Works for 30,000 lb. king-pinload. It is probable, however, that a lighter truck builtalong the lines of the railway companys Bay State 12truck, which was described in the Electric RailwayJournal of Oct. 5, 1912, will ultimately be applied to thisservice, since the superintendent of equipment is of theopinion that the trucks can be lightened materially withthe same factor of safety if the latter design is adaptedto the express cars.
