n the carhouse includes an electricalwind-direction indicator, connected through suitable resist-ances and contacts with a weather vane on the roof of the labeled valves is employed. A view is shown of a repre-sentative dry valve installation. All the lighting of the building is supplied from the rail-way companys circuits, there being 1370 lamps in the car-house, the greater part being 23-watt tungsten lamps. Onthe lower floor are installed 765 lamps, including those usedin pit lighting. Pit lamps are installed 3 ft. 6 in. above the 298 ELECTRIC RAILWAY JOURNAL (Vol. XLII, No. 8. floor and 36 in. apart, there being forty lights per pit, ortwenty on each side. Single lamps for general interiorillumination are spaced about 3 ft. apart and are in generalcarried 10 ft. from the floor in horizontal runs in the car-house proper.
