cause sufficient wear topreclude their use under such conditions. TROLLEY WIRE Up to .the present time there has been very little wear oneither the copper or steel trolley wires. There is a slightwear on the copper trolley wire section at those pointswhere a few ears have a slight vertical tip on account ofthe bending of the hangers. The steel trolley wire showssome rusting on the top, but the under surface is smoothand there is no appreciable wear. The steel wire alsoshows no roughness such as would have been caused bypitting, due to the arcing of trolley wheels. RECAPITULATION After the various inspections during which the facts here-inbefore given were determined, the engineers of the Con-necticut Company have reached certain conclusions on thecatenary construction, although they appreciate that theobservations have been made on relatively small amountsof material. It is suggested that the most desirable type of construc-tion for interurban trollev wheel operation is a copper mes-

It is believed that it would be more desirable tosecure this movement at the trolley end of the hanger, since I055 this would make it unnecessary to lift the hanger, but, onthe other hand, no satisfactory ear has been developedwhich permits a longitudinal movement along the trolleywire. It does not seem desirable to have a hinge at thelower end, when there is a loop at the top, as this permits
