It has floor space 228 ft. x 72 ft. sub-divided by two central rows of columns. This shop is of par-ticular interest because of its very complete equipment of tools,all of which are driven by independent motors. A generalview of the shop interior was published last week. The ab-sence of overhead shafting will be noted. A gear and casting cleaning tank has been installed betweenthe machine and truck shops. This tank has a cage in which10,000 lb. of dirty castings may be lowered into a bath of hotsoda water. Chicago Railways Shops—Pattern Storage Room with Steel Adjustable Shelving gives the machine and truck shop foreman daily advice asto how many wheels of each kind are ready to be deliveredto the carhouses. The trolley-pole assembly and repair work is done at abench on one side of the truck shop. This work requires allof one mans time. His working equipment includes a motor-operated drill press. He has stock supply bins for trolleywheels, harps, bases and miscellaneous parts. Chicago Railways Shops—Wheel Record have been equipped with motors and control.
