UN CO WEh< 4 A loco-notive built by the Westinghouse Electric Co.for service on the Los Angeles aqueduct is illustrated in Plate6. It was built in the latter part of 1906, and shows very clearlythe next development in frame construction, namely the use ofplates and angles instead of heavy castings, cast steel pedestalshowever being used. This type of construction made a much stiff-er frame for the same amount of material involved, ar^ enabledthe manufacturer to build the 4-ton locomotive to the estimated8000 lbs. instead of having to weight it to 9500 lbs. Plates 7 and 8 illustrate locomotives built by theBaldwin Westinghouse Go. in 1908, for foreign service. Thesephotographs do not show as radical changes as do Plates 9,10, 11,and 12, these latter plates representing locomotives just recent-ly built.
