Deutsch: Der aus Anklam in Pommern stammende Bildhauer Walter Wadephul (1901 - 1968) wurde vom Bremer Landesverband des Bundes der Vertriebenen für den künstlerischen Entwurf der Bronzeplastik „Elch“ beauftragt. Das Standbild eines großen Elches ist 1962 in der Heimatvertriebenen-Siedlung in Kattenesch, in den Grünanlagen an der Höxterstr., als
„Symbol des Deutschen Ostens" aufgestellt worden. Die Figur soll an Ostdeutschland erinnern und wurde als Symbol gewählt, weil seit 1787 die siebenzackige Elchschaufel als Brandzeichen für alle in Trakenen geborene Pferde ein Begriff ist. In den Klinkersockel des Standbildes wurde eine Kassette eingemauert, die u.a. die Charta der Heimatvertriebenen, mehrere Ausgaben des Mitgliederdienstes "Ostdeutsche Heimat" und die Urkunde der Aufstellung mit den Namen der Vorstandsmitglieder enthält. k: kunst im öffentlichen raum bremen |
