Description
English: Elbaite, Albite (Var.: Cleavelandite)
Locality: Pederneira claim, São José da Safira, Doce valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil (Locality at mindat.org)
Size: 17.1 x 8.2 x 4.7 cm.
This superb specimen features a 6.5-inch (16cm) crystal standing straight up from a roseate cluster of brilliant, sparkling white cleavelandite blades. They are decorated with sparkling purple lepdiolite, like sugar. The albite is so lustrous and bright, that it is hard to photograph and so is appearing whited out and muted in the photo here. This was mined during the period from 1999-2005 or so. This particular specimen is from the so-called "rocket pocket" and came out around 2000-2001. This mine is now, for all intents, closed and not producing at the moment.
