Español: Fue el primer cartagenero en recibir las palas del Almirante. Cada cargo que logro, cada mención y cada situación que viví es su vida. Durante su carrera militar ocupo cargos malos, buenos y excelentes. Los malos siempre fueron los más interesantes porque allí le exigían más y tenía que sobreponerse al medio, como cuando fue cañonero en el Río Putumayo y se enfermé dos veces de malaria, o cuando en 1980 siendo comandante del Comando Unificado del Sur paso más de 11 días en la selva. Fue gratificante el momento en que el presidente Virgilio Barco lo designó como comandante de la Armada Nacional.
De todas esas experiencias en las selvas colombianas la que mayor satisfacción le ha generado fue la organización operativa de la flotilla Avispa, y cuando en el año 1957 hizo un sistema de combate para infantería, y la autoría e implementación de un manual táctico que todavía hoy se emplea y por el que le impusieron la condecoración Almirante Padilla siendo teniente de corbeta”. Se cuenta que en sus tiempos de comandancia hizo anotar en todos los tableros de la Armada la frase: ‘La puntualidad es cortesía de reyes. deber de los caballeros y costumbre de las personas educadas”.
