The outfit worn by drug lord Joaquin "Chapo" Guzman when he was extradited to the United States from Mexico in 2017.

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: DEA Museum description for object (ACCESSION NUMBER: 2018.3.1-4): "Joaquín “El Chapo” Archivaldo Guzmán Loera is the former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel and was one of the most powerful and dangerous drug traffickers in the world. He is currently serving a life sentence plus 30 years in a federal maximum-security prison. Guzmán wore this outfit when he was extradited to the United States from Mexico in 2017. After his second escape from prison in 2015, Mexican Navy Special Operations Unit (UNOPES) tracked Guzmán for months until they located him at a small house in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico. In the early morning of January 8, 2016, UNOPES raided the home, but Guzmán escaped through a hidden tunnel. He and a bodyguard emerged from a manhole cover a block away and commandeered a vehicle. Mexican authorities arrested the men as they attempted to leave the city. As leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, Guzmán amassed billions of dollars smuggling drugs into the United States and participated in the kidnapping, torture, and murder of hundreds of people. He will wear a plain, unremarkable prison uniform like this one for the rest of his life."
