Description
Español: El imponente edificio de seis plantas, sobre un terreno de 4 mil metros cuadrados, en el cruce de la avenida Nicolás de Piérola y el jirón de la Unión, frente a la plaza San Martín, es ejemplo de la influencia modernista en la arquitectura peruana. Fue diseñado por Rafael Marquina, arquitecto peruano formado en al Universidad de Cornell en Estados Unidos (1909), quien a su regreso fue uno de los máximos exponentes del estilo neocolonial, caracterizado por la aplicación de los materiales contemporáneos a una concepción tradicional; Marquina también se encargó de la construcción del Hospital Arzobispo Loayza, del Puericultorio Pérez Araníbar y del conjunto arquitectónico de la Plaza San Martín.
