English: Photograph of a drawing by Edward Vischer depicting the "El Aliso" Winery (formerly the Vignes Winery in Los Angeles) taken by photographer Edward Vischer, before 1875. This drawing depicts the famous "El Aliso" tree which stood at the center of the Tongva village of Yaanga in the mid-eighteenth century. A load of wooden barrels are lined-up next to a cart, to the left of a large tree which stands at center. In the background, a complex of stables and tin-roofed shacks surrounds the courtyard in which the tree is planted. To the tree's right, a group of three people stand around a sequestered barrel. Text below the image identifies the area. This winery was first owned by Vischer prior to 1875, then owned by Sansarian and then Milo and Zobelein. |
