Description

During the German occupation of Norway in World War II 1940–1945, the German authorities built a war cemetery at Ekeberg in Oslo. In 1952 the war casualties buried there were moved to a new war cemetery at Alfaset in the Groruddalen district of Oslo.

The German War Graves Commission (Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge) is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of German war graves in Europe and North Africa.

Roofed or capped crosses tends to be used mostly for gravestones, war memorials and wayside crosses, especially in Europe. They are not unique to any particular Christian denomination and the styles are varied; plain Latin, with or without a corpus, multi-barred Eastern Orthodox, etc.

Ekeberg krigskirkegård, også omtalt som Ekeberg æreskirkegård og på tysk Deutscher Ehrenfriedhof Ekeberg, var en æreskirkegård på Ekeberg i Oslo under andre verdenskrig for falne, tyske soldater. Opprettelsen ble kunngjort i Deutsche Zeitung in Norwegen 20. mai 1940. Gravlunden skulle bli på hele 950 mål, og dermed være den største i Norge. Kirkegården ble anlagt like ved Ekebergrestauranten og bak Sjømannsskolen. Da den ble nedlagt i 1952/1953, hadde den 2956 graver. Disse ble flyttet til Alfaset krigskirkegård.
