| Description |
Deutsch: Die weltweite Nahrungsmittelproduktion ist eine der zentralen gesellschaftlichen Herausforderungen im 21. Jahrhundert. Eine steigende Weltbevölkerung bei gleichzeitigen Umwälzungen durch den Klimawandel fordern neue Wege, um Nutzpflanzen auch in klimatisch ungünstigen Regionen kultivieren zu können. Für Wüsten und Gebiete mit tiefen Temperaturen wie auch bei Weltraummissionen zu Mond und Mars ermöglicht ein geschlossenes Gewächshaus von Wetter, Sonne und Jahreszeit unabhängige Ernten sowie weniger Wasserverbrauch und den Verzicht auf Pestizide und Insektizide. Mit dem Projekt EDEN-ISS geht solch ein Modell-Gewächshaus der Zukunft Ende 2017 für ein Jahr unter antarktischen Extrembedingungen in die Langzeiterprobung.
