35 mm slide; color. Scientific Classification: Kingdom: Animalia; Phylum: Chordata; Class: Aves; Order: Anseriformes; Family: Anatidae; Genus: Alopochen; Genus species: Alopochen aegyptiacus. Animal characteristics: Head-Body Length: 63-73 cm; Identification: The Egyptian goose is a buff color with darker upper parts, white forewings, long pink legs, a pale head with a dark brown collar, and brown patches on the face and belly; Habitat: Wetlands; Diet: Herbivore: grass, leaves, seeds; Reproduction: Egyptian geese are year-long breeders, although most nest during the spring/end of the dry season. They are also sustained monogamists. Nests are built in dense vegetation on shore, in caves or trees; Social Structure: These birds will gather at communal feeding grounds around sunset each day. During the nonbreeding season, the birds will form large flocks; Behavior: Cliffs, buildings, and trees serve as common perches and roosts; Status: No special status; Interesting Facts: This is the most widespread waterfowl species in Africa.
