Summary

English: The Great Pyramid of Khufu, at Giza is thought to have been built between 2589 – 2566 BC. It is 754 feet long on each side, covers 13 acres, 450 feet high and is composed of 2,300,000 blocks of stone, each averaging 2.5 tons in weight. There is less than 8 inches difference in the length of each side and the whole structure is perfectly oriented to the points of the compass. Until the 19th century it was the tallest building in the world and at the age of 4,500 years, it is the only one of the famous “Seven Wonders of the Ancient World” that still stands.
Not much is known about Cheops (Khufu). He must have been very wealthy and was buried alone in this massive tomb. |
