Summary
[edit]DescriptionEglwys y Cwn aka The Hermitage - geograph.org.uk - 789261.jpg |
English: Eglwys y Cwn aka The Hermitage. The Gwynedd Council's guide to Glynllifon states of this gothic folly.
"(It was) built around 1825 with walnut exterior timbers and stained glass windows. According to legend, it was once home to a paid hermit, until he was sacked for spending all his time and money at the local inn." The Hermitage was then converted to a chapel where the obsequies for the family's pets were conducted prior to internment at a nearby cemetery. The building became known to the workers on the estate as Eglwys y Cwn (=church of the dogs). |
