Summary
[edit]DescriptionEglwys Gadeiriol Llanelwy - St Asaph Cathedral.jpg |
English: At only 182 feet in length it is the smallest cathedral in England and Wales. Begun in about 1239, it suffered greatly from its proximity to the main invasion route into North Wales. In 1282 it was burnt by Edward I's English soldiers, and rebuilt between 1284 and 1381, only to be burnt again in 1402 by Owain Glyndwr's Welsh troops. It was repaired in the late C15, and thoroughly remodelled by Gilbert Scott in 1867-75. |
