Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Eglwys Gadeiriol Deiniol Sant - St. Deiniol's Cathedral. There has been a church on this site since the sixth century when Deiniol was granted land here by King Maelgwn Gwynedd. On a number of occasions - 634, 1074, 1211, 1282 and 1402 A.D. - marauding armies have put the cathedral to the torch. King John and Owain Glyndwr were the two most famous arsonists. The present structure was built just before the Reformation and has since undergone modifications, the most drastic in the mid-Victorian period.
