Summary

[edit]
Description Eggesford House, Devon, view from the south-east. Built between 1820 and 1830 by Hon. Newton Fellowes, using contractor Thomas Lee of Barnstaple. It was abandoned in 1911, and became delapidated. This photograph was taken for the Earl of Portsmouth on 25 Jan 1888 by H. Bedford Lemere & Co., according to the firm's daybook. Bedford Lemere & Co was established by Bedford Lemere (1839-1911) in London in the 1860s. The firm undertook commissions from architects, builders, owners, interior decorators and furnishers. Lemere's son Henry (Harry) Bedford Lemere (1865-1944) joined the firm in 1881 and his work sealed the company's reputation as being the foremost architectural photographers of the period.
