DescriptionEdward Onslow Ford (1852-1901) - The Snowdrift (1901) back detail, Lady Lever Art Gallery, Port Sunlight, Cheshire, May 2013 (11041178533).png |
English: Note on orientation: in this case I've used "front" and "back" relative to the direction in which the figure is lying, based on the assumption that the "main" pov is the one looking toward the front of her torso.
Well, loyal viewers, the sad news is that this is the final set of pictures from the Lady Lever Art Gallery, and also the very final set featuring Edward Onslow Ford. Still, I'm proud to say that I have assembled what is probably the most comprehensive collection of pictures of his work to be found anywhere. The pose in this piece is based on his earlier Shelley Memorial (which is about his only major work that I haven't photographed), which might explain its somewhat androgynous qualities. The pedestal is an absolutely stunning piece of work, but I don't know if Ford was responsible for that because he passed away while sculpting the figure and it was completed posthumously. Perhaps appropriately, it's ambiguous as to whether the girl is only sleeping. |
