MAJOR GENERAL EDWARD F. McGLACHLIN Arrived in France, March 4, 1918, with rank of Brigadier General.Promoted to Major General, April 12, 1918. Born: Wisconsin, June 9, 1868. Distinguished Service Medal. For exceptionally meritorious and distin-guished services. As commander of the Ar-tillery of the First Army in its organizationand subsequent operations he solved the diffi-cult problems involved with rare militaryjudgment. In the St. Mihiel and Argonne-Meuse offensives his qualities as a leader weredemonstrated by the effective employment ofArtillery that was planned and conductedunder his direction. He later commanded withgreat ability and success the First InfantryDivision of the American ExpeditionaryForces. G. O. 12 (January 17, 1919). (121)
