English: Two depictions of Queen Teri'itaria II (Teri'i tari'a Ari'i paea Vahine; 1790–1858), monarch of Huahine in the Society Islands (now part of French Polynesia) from 1815 to 18 March 1852 during the Teurura'i dynasty. She is shown standing next to a 32-pounder gun on the upper deck of the H.M.S. Daphne, which she visited to lunch with Fanshawe on 30 August 1849 during his diplomatic visit to Huahine from 28 to 30 August. The drawing was numbered 18 in Fanshawe's Pacific album (produced when he served on the Daphne, 1849–1852). |
