Summary
[edit]DescriptionEdison mimeograph typewriter.png |
Woodcut of Edison Mimeograph Typewriter, manufactured by the A. B. Dick Co. starting in 1894, from an article in a stenography magazine. The accompanying text says it's price is $22, and claims a speed of 30 words per minute. This is known as an index typewriter: the typist turns the dial on the front to each letter, and presses the printing bar on the left side to print the letter. In spite of the name, it was not invented by Thomas A. Edison, but originally designed to cut stencils for the very popular Edison Mimeograph machine, made by Dick, then sold as a general purpose typewriter. There were three models in total and differed only in the number of characters they could type. They were designated models 1,2 & 3 and could cost up to $25 for the top model. A commercial failure, it was only sold for a few years.
