Description

Edgewater Beach Apartments in Chicago (1928). It was part of a luxury resort complex along with the 1915 Edgewater Beach Hotel. It had a 1200 ft private beach and hosted shows from renowned big bands like Tommy Dorsey. The complex hosted its own radio station, WEBH, which is considered a precursor to WGN. Residents and guests could be transported to the Loop via the resort seaplane. The extension of Lake Shore Drive in the 1950s cut off the complex from its beacha nd sealed its fate. The hotel was demolished shortly afterward.
