Summary
[edit]DescriptionEdge of LSST Camera focal plane (ann20013d).jpg |
English: Individual imaging sensors and supporting electronics of the LSST Camera’s focal plane are packaged into units, called “rafts.” There are two different types of units: 21 square rafts (center), each containing nine sensors, will produce the images for Rubin Observatory’s science program. An additional four specialty rafts (left) with only four sensors each will be used for camera focusing and guiding the telescope. |

JPEG file comment | The Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) camera team has installed the first of 21 science rafts -- 3-by-3 arrays of state-of-the-art imaging sensors. Together they'll take unprecedented 3,200-megapixel images of the night sky, which, over time, will produce the world's largest astrophysical movie. Photo: Farrin Abbott / SLAC |
