DescriptionEdenbridge railway station in 2008.jpg |
Original description: Edenbridge station Edenbridge has two stations: Edenbridge and Edenbridge Town. Edenbridge (seen here) is on the Redhill to Tonbridge line but was originally on the main line from Dover and Folkestone to London via Tonbridge and Redhill opened in 1842. When the Redhill line was replaced by the more direct route via Sevenoaks in 1868 it lost much of its importance and was threatened with closure in 1963. An unusual but far from unique feature of the station is that its platforms are not opposite each other. The picture shows the eastbound, "down" platform. |
