Miss Winnie Sundean, 22 Tennis Champion of Southern Womans Colleges (140) Field Day, May 1, 1919 Five oclock came none loo soon onthe morning of May 1, for many wereup even before that time preparing forthat eventful day which meant eithervictory or defeat for every one ofthem. The Gabberwock shone forthmore than usual on that day. At nineoclock amid many yells, the Freshmanand Junior basketball teams steppedout on the court to play one of themost exciting games of the season.Fate was on the side of the Gabber-wock, and this gave the ChampionCup to the Juniors. In the tennismatch, Winnie Sundean who, beforecoming to us, had won for Minnesotathe championship from Nebraska, wasvictorious in singles, and with RuthBalsam won in doubles. This gavethe Freshman Class the ChampionCup in tennis. Rachael May Taylorwas the most graceful vaulter, Ernes-tine Lambeth the prettiest runner,Lucile Johnson the most gracefulwalker, and Naomi Howie the fastestwalker.
