Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Eastgate Square Currently containing the road junction for the A259 and A285 that ring the city centre. The Eastgate was demolished with the other gates in the late 18th century to ease traffic and lay roughly across the line of the modern building on stilts to the right and the last white house on the left. Originally the point where Stane Street Roman road entered the city, at various points in time this site has had a pond formed by the River Lavant that once followed the course of the current Market Road/Avenue, houses in the centre of the square, it was the original site of the War Memorial before the area was redeveloped to ease traffic after the Second World War.
