Animal characteristics: Head-Body Length: up to 2.3 m; Identification: Adult eastern indigo snakes are blue-black or brown in color, and the juveniles have washed-out crossbars; Habitat: Scrub and pine flatwoods; Diet: Carnivore: birds, young turtles, frogs, snakes (including rattlesnakes); Reproduction: This is an egg-laying species, with clutches having 8-12 eggs; Behavior: This is a relatively good-natured species; Status: Threatened: human exploitation, habitat loss; Interesting Facts: This is the largest nonpoisonous snake found in North America.
