Summary

[edit]
Description Photo taken, I walk towards the park exit, only to come across the Cassowary, who seems to have lost the tip of his upper beak. Poor chap. This is another of the large, flightless ground birds, native to Australia. Largely herbivorous, but eats small mammals, lizards and insects on occasion. These birds are characterized by the bony helmet atop their heads and brightly coloured necks. When cornered, they can kick with their powerful legs which can break a man's leg bone or even kill him. KL, Jan/ Feb. 2012.
