Predominately red snake with black rings encasing white.

Milk snakes have a "Y" or "V" shape behind the head. In eastern Kansas, a cream or light gray body is covered in wide red blotches outlined in black. The belly is checkerboarded with dark and light scales. These snakes are most commonly found in logs, under bark, and at the edges of woodlands.
