[edit]DescriptionEastern Iceland (MODIS 2015-05-23).jpg |
English: Winter retained its icy grip on eastern Iceland in late spring, 2015. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA Aqua satellite captured this true-color image on May 13 as it passed over the island nation.
An unusual spring has left Iceland in a curious east-west divided. According to Iceland Review On Line, in Reykjavik (western Iceland), lawns and gardens are greening up, and spring barbecues have already begun. Meanwhile, in Neskaupstaur (eastern Iceland), the children are still wearing their snowsuits when they walk outside. The spring divide can be clearly seen in this image, as well. Bright white, highly reflective snow lies over eastern Iceland, while to the west the color seen between the clouds is predominantly the green-tinged tan typical of early spring. |
