Summary

[edit]
Description This lovely stone cottage is, unfortunately, located on the busiest road through Sylva, and in the midst of a slowly expanding suburban sprawl-style business corridor. Constructed during the 1920s or 1930s, the large English Cottage-style stone house (a stripped-down and simplified version of the Tudor Style) is located along North Carolina Highway 107 between Downtown Sylva and Walmart, in an area that has rapidly commercialized since the mid-20th Century. The house, sitting in the middle of this corridor, remained a home up until a few years ago, but was recently put on the market and listed as land, and has been rezoned as commercial, meaning that it will likely not stand for much longer. It is a shame that what is arguably the best English Cottage-style house in the town, and the most attractive building in this area of the town sits in such a high-traffic location and is probably going to be a victim of development pressure, bulldozed for another pharmacy, auto parts store, or gas station, but that’s just the nature of this being a small town with quite a bit of charm and natural beauty, but, despite not struggling to get by, still does not have a lot of money or means to retain what makes the town charming and beautiful.
