Summary

[edit]
Description
English: "A rare view looking east on East Broad Street near the intersection of Jefferson Avenue. Visable on each side of the road are the treed avenues to separate traffic. The large stone home on the left is 580 East Broad Street, the mansion of Clinton DeWeese Firestone. Firestone and Oscar Peters founded the Columbus Buggy Company in 1875. It soon became the largest manufacturer of light buggies in the world. As a symbol of his success Firestone built this home, designed by architect Elah Terrell, in the prestigious East Broad Street neighborhood. The home was completed in April, 1887 and had five levels. The Firestones lived here until 1913. On August 10, 1914 the home was purchased by the Columbus Mutual Life Insurance Company and used as the company headquarters until 1942. It was occupied by the Buckeye Union Casualty from 1942 to 1960. Unfortunately, this grand home was demolished in February of 1962."
