Description
English: Sculpted by nature, the 5.6 mile East Applegate Ridge Trail is open to hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrian riders. Traversing five eco-regions and steep hillsides, visitors can savor a kaleidoscope of wildflowers throughout the spring and summer. The half-way point is marked by a bench and a generous 360 degree view. Along the way you may see paragliders floating like pterodactyls from Woodrat Mountain.

The easy access of this trail makes it a fun out-and-back. The BLM’s partner, the Applegate Trail Association hope to link Jacksonville to the Cathedral Hills trails outside of Grants Pass creating a 50-mile trail system.

Getting there: From Jacksonville, go west on Applegate Street which becomes Cady Road for 1.9 miles. Turn south on Sterling Creek Road and continue for about 4 miles, and then turn west on BLM Road 38-2-29.1. The trailhead and parking area is ¼ of a mile at the end of the road. There is a sign but no amenities.

A memorial bench lets you rest at the half-way point along the East Applegate Ridge Trail. From here, you may see paragliders floating like pterodactyls from neighboring Woodrat Mountain.
